Are you under 16 or have NO work experience?
Consider VOLUNTEERING locally. Volunteer your time to gain job experience. Ideas:
-concession stand or other fundraisiers (money handling, customer service)
-local food bank (stocking shelves, working with people)
-childcare at church (great day care experience)
-lead a school group or chair a cause (show leadership and ability to follow through)

DON'T FORGET to include any student aide positions you've held with teachers and administration at school. Make sure you put that experience on your resume or application. Ask the teacher or staff member you've aided for if you can put them down as a reference.
Tips for a successful interview
Before the interview:
-Do your research. Learn as much as you can about the company AND the position before applying.
-Dress appropriately anytime you are visiting the copany, when picking up an application form and when interviewing for the job. HIDE ANY TATOOS AND EXOTIC PEIRCINGS during the interview.
-Be thorough when completing the application, don't leave out any information. Blank spaces=laziness.
-Clean up your social networking sites (Facebook) and get an appropriate e-mail address. Employers routinely look at your Facebook, and Twitter accounts, and can go back several years to see what has been posted.
-Practice your questions and responses in the mirror or with a family member or friend.
-Arrive 15 minutes before the interview. If you're not 15 minutes early-YOU'RE LATE.
During the interview:
-Make eye contact with the interviewer throughtout the meeting.
-Smile and speak clearly.
-Offer a confident handshake, firm but not crushing.
-Sit straight up in your chair.
-Do not eat, drink, chew gum, smoke or dip tobacco during interview.
-Turn your cell phone OFF (not vibrate) during the interview.
-Answer the questions in complete sentences.
-Jot down a list of questions you'd like to ask the interviewer and bring those with you. Ask questions about the job requirements, the opportunity for advancement, and about the company. This demonstrates taht you are a learner.
-Close the interview by shaking the interviewers hand, thanking them for their time, and letting them know how much you would like this job. Practice your "closing thank you statement".
After the interview:
-Send a brief note to the interviewer thanking them for their time, and reinforcing your belief that you would be a good fit for the position. Receiving a thank you note is often the decision maker for employers.

-Tell me a little about yourself. (be careful not to divulge personal information, stick to your professional attributes)
-Why are you interested in this position? (remember, it's never about salary)
-What experience do you have working in a position like this? (don't forget, your volunteer time counts)
-What are your strengths? (match your strengths to the job requirements)
-Why are you wanting to leave your current position? (never EVER say anything negative about your boss or company)
-Tell me about your future goals. (always have an academic or a career goal to discuss)
-How do you handle conflict with others? (discuss things calmly, find a resolution, seek a manager, never yell)
-Do you have any questions about the position or the company? (don't ask about pay or benefits)
-What makes you the best candidate for this job? Why should we hire you? (it's about your love for the job)
How to Keep a Job
-Show up every day and be on time.
-Get along with co-wokers, even if you don't like them.
-Dress appropriately, follow the company dress code.
-Speak appropriately, use good grammer, and not EVER use profanity.
-Don't whine about work situations, instead offer suggestions for improvement.
-Do you best work-no excuses, no goofing off, no personal business on company time.
-Always give a two week notice before quitting a job. It's a professional standard in most every industry.
If you ever want to get promoted or get a raise, do all of the above AND:
-Do more than is expected, don't ever say "that's not my job"
-Be a team player-focus on the objectives of your job AND the objectives of the company.
